An Exploration of the Relationship Between of the “Urgency, Astringent” and “Slow, Fast” in Calligraphy and the “Rhyme”and “Ease” Aesthetics of Calligraphy

Abstract

The use of pen is the most important in calligraphy. However, most of the brushwork vocabulary in calligraphy culture outlines imagery thinking; Therefore, this paper intends to take the brushwork of calligraphy as the main axis and study the brushwork along the lineage, focusing on the aesthetic relationship between the " urgency, astringent" and "slow, fast" vocabulary symbols, as well as the "rhyme" and "ease", to compile and support the artistic creation of calligraphy, which not only has the characteristics of time and space, but also the lines presented by its brushwork, just like the voice of a singer. The music can provide a basis for the aesthetics of calligraphy, and it is of great value to study the threshold of imagery in depth.
In a cross-disciplinary art, there are many extensions that can be explored, such as the " urgency, astringent" and "slow, fast" strokes of calligraphy, and other quotations of the momentum, all of which correspond to the cultural arts of music, painting, etc. For example, the aesthetics of "Yi Ge" in painting and calligraphy, and the "Fugue" music of German composer Bach, the strangeness of its spatial counterpoint, is the best proof. In addition, modern calligraphy is created horizontally in cursive script, the visual axis of which resembles the jumping notes on a black and white music score, and the heart mark on the paper shows the vitality of art and culture. In conclusion, the opportunity to explore the musicality of calligraphy and the aesthetics of "rhyme" and "ease" should deepen the creation of a humanistic field, and create a new meaning of the times by agreeing to each other.
