Calligraphy in the modern era is in the past traditional writing and modern art integration on the intersection. How to present the modern characteristics of calligraphy and do not lose the original nature of calligraphy, is a question worth pondering.
This paper presents the performance and controversies of modern calligraphy from the debate between modernity and tradition, and presents various insights from the perspective of Western theory and traditional calligraphy theory in an attempt to clarify the possibility of this issue. We propose that the nature of cursive writing has more room for expression and artistry in contemporary times.
First, the state of modern calligraphy is presented; second, the relationship between calligraphy and painting is explained, and how calligraphy becomes an artwork. The third is the issue of standard cursive script and cursive calligraphy, and the compatibility of cursive calligraphic qualities with art.
