HE Yan-Chiuan is the Researcher and Section Chief of the Department of Painting, Calligraphy, Rare Books and Historical Documents, National Palace Museum. Born in Taipei, 1974, He earned an M.A. in Art History from National Taiwan University, and a Ph.D. in History of Art & Architecture from Boston University. His thesis topic was "The Materiality, Style, and Culture of Northern Song Dynasty Calligraphy". Continuously focusing on the calligraphy works in the National Palace Museum collection, He studies the material culture of calligraphy, and attempts to reconsider calligraphy history from different perspectives.
